Thalamocortical Dysconnectivity in Autism Spectrum Disorder: An Analysis of the Autism Brain Imaging Data Exchange

Analysis of the brain connectivity patterns of individuals with Autism and of their typically developing peers revealed hyper-connectivity between the thalamus and the prefrontal cortex, temporal lobe and the sensorimotor cortex in the brains of indviduals with ASD.  These findings suggest possible neurophysiological basis for the abnormal sensorimotor processing as well as the generally abnormal cortical excitability in individuals with ASD.
